I think you are right that we would probably be clearer about many things (and hence less indifferent) if we taught ourselves to think more in tangible consequences of trade-offs.

But I am not sure what you mean by ‘more tangible than money’. I explored this particular issue by imagining whether I would pay, or expect to be paid for a change, and as long as the amount either way is non-zero, I am not indifferent.

Now that, in itself, is of course not necessarily an unambiguous indicator of anything, as Dan Ariely’s experiment with the recital of poetry shows :-) Often we don’t know whether we like or dislike something — let alone whether we’re indifferent!
